Divine Computing: Unveiling the Computers-on-the-Ark Mystery
Published: 10 June 2024
Computers on the Ark?
Genesis spends three whole chapters describing a globe-covering Flood and an enormous vessel built to preserve all vertebrate kinds. Jesus Himself affirmed the reality of this Flood and Ark, as well as its builder Noah, in Luke 17:26–27. However, few biblical accounts have been mocked as much by atheists and compromisers.
The Feasibility of Building the Ark
Many skeptics raise objections about the feasibility of primitive men building a massive ark and caring for thousands of animals. However, ancient people were more intelligent than commonly believed. In fact, modern humans have experienced genetic mutations with each generation, resulting in a deterioration of our overall intelligence and shorter lifespans compared to our ancient counterparts.
Korean naval architects have demonstrated that a wooden ship with the dimensions of the Ark would have been incredibly stable. By utilizing ancient techniques such as cross-planking for strength, wood hardening, and mortice-and-tenon joints, Noah could have constructed a sturdy vessel capable of withstanding waves over 30 meters high.
Ancient Examples of Large Ships and Animal Care
There is evidence of enormous ancient ships, such as the Leontifera with 1,600 rowers. Additionally, low-tech farming methods like Dutch potstals and grupstals were used to keep animals safely and hygienically during winter months. These examples highlight the ingenuity of ancient civilizations in managing large-scale projects involving animals.
The Limits of Noah's Technological Advancements
Some individuals argue that Noah had access to highly advanced technology during the construction of the Ark. However, this claim is flawed. If Noah possessed tools comparable to ours today, he could have utilized lightweight and strong titanium alloys or even attached an outboard motor to the Ark. The absence of such advancements suggests that Noah's technology was not on par with modern innovations.
Intelligence and Scientific Progress
Although intelligence is valuable, it is not the sole determinant of scientific advancement. The rise of modern science was heavily influenced by specific assumptions derived from a biblical Christian worldview, including rationality, honesty, and the belief in a Lawgiving Creator. Ancient cultures that did not embrace these assumptions, such as Greece and China, did not experience the same scientific progress. Additionally, much of today's technology is built upon previous research and discoveries made by previous generations.
The Pre-Flood World and Scientific Research
The pre-Flood world was characterized by its rejection of God and rampant violence. These conditions were far from conducive to scientific research. While some argue that wartime periods have led to military innovations, it is important to note that the overall advancement of science has occurred during times of peace. The violent nature of the pre-Flood society further highlights the unlikelihood of advanced technological achievements during Noah's time.
Why This Matters
Understanding the feasibility of building the Ark and the limitations of Noah's technological advancements provides valuable insight into the biblical account of the Flood. It challenges skeptics who dismiss the story as unrealistic and encourages a deeper appreciation for the intelligence and resourcefulness of ancient civilizations.
Think About It
Consider how advancements in science and technology are influenced by underlying beliefs and assumptions. Reflect on how embracing a biblical Christian worldview can provide a foundation for scientific progress and understanding.
