Discovering Ancient Christian Artifacts: Black Sea's Pre-Flood Relics

Pre-Flood Relics on the Bottom of the Black Sea
The Black Sea has recently become the focus of attention due to the discovery of pre-flood relics on its seabed. Renowned explorer Robert Ballard, known for finding the wreckage of the Titanic, has reported finding evidence of human settlement 300 feet below the surface. Carved wooden beams, branches, stone tools, and even a collapsed structure believed to be built by humans have been discovered.
This discovery provides concrete evidence that people once lived in the now submerged region. It is important to note that while some have made connections between this finding and Noah's Flood, there are significant differences that need to be addressed.
1. The Black Sea Flood vs. Noah's Flood
The Flood described in the Bible is a global event, whereas the flooding of the Black Sea was localized. The Bible states that Noah's Flood covered the highest mountains, but the Black Sea flood only rose a few hundred feet and did not cover local mountains. Additionally, Noah built an ark to survive the global flood, while those affected by the Black Sea flood were able to walk to higher ground as the water rose slowly.
2. Displacement vs. Destruction
In Noah's Flood, everyone outside of the Ark perished, while in the case of the Black Sea flood, residents were simply displaced by rising waters. Furthermore, only the animals and birds on Noah's Ark survived according to the Bible, but this was not the case with the local flood in the Black Sea.
3. Rainfall and Duration
Noah's Flood lasted for forty days and involved continuous rainfall. In contrast, there was no rain associated with the Black Sea flood. The biblical account emphasizes that when the waters receded, dry land appeared. However, the waters from the Black Sea flood have not yet receded.
4. Flood Legends
Many cultures have ancient flood stories, including the Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, Chinese, and even the Irish. While it is possible to imagine that these legends could have originated from the Black Sea flood around 7,000 years ago, it does not explain the flood legends among American Indians and Australian Aborigines. These cultures supposedly existed thousands of years before the Black Sea flood, suggesting that all flood legends may be corrupted memories of the true worldwide Flood of Noah described in the Bible.
5. Timing and the Ice Age
If we consider that the Black Sea flooded toward the end of the Ice Age, it can be linked to biblical chronology and the history of the world. Based on Ussher's Bible-based chronology, which places Noah's Flood at 2348 BC, creationist research suggests that the Ice Age occurred after the Flood and took approximately 700 years to reach its peak and another 200 years to melt back. Therefore, the flooding of the Black Sea likely occurred around 1650 BC, after most continental ice sheets had melted.
6. Carbon Dating and Biblical Chronology
There is a discrepancy between the published date of 5600 BC for the Black Sea flood and biblical chronology. This discrepancy arises from not correcting radiocarbon (14C) dates for changes in atmospheric carbon ratios following the Flood. The sudden burial of vegetation during the Flood altered carbon reservoirs on Earth, leading to an ongoing approach towards equilibrium. Properly corrected 14C dates would align with biblical chronology.
Why This Matters
The discovery of pre-flood relics in the depths of the Black Sea provides tangible evidence of human habitation in a region that is now submerged. It challenges conventional beliefs about human history and supports a young-earth creationist perspective. Understanding and interpreting these findings through a biblical lens can deepen our understanding of God's judgment on human sin as described in Noah's worldwide Flood.
Think About It
Consider the significance of the Black Sea flood and its relationship to Noah's Flood. Reflect on how various flood legends around the world may be connected to the true, historical account of Noah's global Flood as recorded in the Bible. Ponder the impact of these findings on our understanding of human history and the reliability of the biblical record.
